The study, therefore, resulted that moderate levels of secondhand smoke deliver nicotine to the brain and alters its functions. Higher brain nicotine levels result from the chronic or severe exposure and this explains that secondhand smoke exposure makes people vulnerable to tobacco addiction. I2R Launches A New Language Translator

A*Star's Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) has launched a prototype translation program, which has potential as an add-on service for portable devices and mobile phones in future. It took three years for the Institute to design the software in the first phase of its development.

It is a combined effort of the 8 countries of the Asian Speech Translation Advanced Research Consortium that was founded by China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea and Thailand in 2006. Singapore and Vietnam joined the consortium in 2008.

The consortium expects to bring in few more countries as it proceeds into the second phase of the project. This would let the Institute to add more languages and expand the use of the program.

Li Haizhou, department head of human language technology at I2R, said the program could be installed Java enabled device as software, similar to Skype. Internet connection is necessary as it is a network-based translation system that connects to the servers located in each participating country. These servers will act as "translation centers" where each member country handles a certain language

Sternlicht's $100 Million Luxury Hotel Firm

The founder and CEO of Starwood Hotels, Barry Sternlicht, is into raising a hefty amount to start a new luxury brand in hospitality industry.

What amuses me here is that how can a person raise such a big amount of money all by himself? I agree that he is the founder of one of the largest hotel companies, which has around 930 franchised properties, and 155,000 employees; but I don’t think he can do all by himself with just that image.

By the way, he is looking for around $100 million in order to set up a new luxury hotel firm that can develop and handle assets under the name of a luxury brand.

1. Persistence – Innovation involves more than just great ideas. We need faith, hard work and focus for the end result to keep persisting for our vision in the face of roadblocks. We have to see the actions, hard work and persistence behind the scene to make the vision a reality.

2. Get Rid Of Self-Limiting Inhibitions – Under the spell of inhibition, we feel limited and stuck. We need to free ourselves from these mind-created restrictions by eliminating assumptions and limitations. This is what is called “think outside the box”.
