Sternlicht's $100 Million Luxury Hotel Firm

The founder and CEO of Starwood Hotels, Barry Sternlicht, is into raising a hefty amount to start a new luxury brand in hospitality industry.

What amuses me here is that how can a person raise such a big amount of money all by himself? I agree that he is the founder of one of the largest hotel companies, which has around 930 franchised properties, and 155,000 employees; but I don’t think he can do all by himself with just that image.

By the way, he is looking for around $100 million in order to set up a new luxury hotel firm that can develop and handle assets under the name of a luxury brand.

At present, he was successful in convincing his present Starwood Capital investor – the Oregon Investment Council, to invest a $5 million into this. Oregon is expecting a good income for this firm in the form of licensing fees for use of its brands, hotel management fees; also in the form of equity invested in some of the hotels by Starwood Hotels group.

Good confidence levels…
