Tartar is also known as calculus which is a form of hardened dental plaque. Tartar is different from plaque which is caused by bacteria on the teeth but usually they are present in the mouths of people. Plaque is responsible for forming the tartar because the plaque will have a rough surface so that it is easy to build up more plaque on it.
While tartar refers to sticky substance on the teeth, it hardens both above and below the gums of the teeth. Formation of tartar above the gum is
called supragingival and the formation of tartar below the gum is called as subgingival.
This sticky substance will tend to formation of yellow and brown stains on teeth. Once these stains are formed it is difficult to remove because those stains are so hard and removed with the help of dentist only. Dentist will use some tartar related tools and specialized sharp equipments in order to remove the tartar on your teeth whenever you visit the teeth.
If you are unable to get rid of those stains on your teeth, you have to face problems like gum diseases, receding gums, bad breath etc.
