Effects of Methamphetamine, a Club Drug

Methamphetamine, is one among the harmful and dangerous club drugs. Compared to other drugs it is more addictive. A strong stimulant which is related to amphetamine, excites the central nervous system and makes it more addictive. The most common form are white, odorless, bitter in taste that easily dissolves in water. It can also be found in clear, large chunky crystals and small brightly colored tablets. It can be smoked, injected, snorted, or taken orally.

Effects of Methamphetamine: Physical effects of this drug include wakefulness, increased rates of heart and blood pressures. It also increases body temperature and rate of breathing. Long term usage of this drug results in insomnia and several dental problems. Users who particularly inject the drug may be effected by infectious diseases like HIV, AIDS and hepatitis.
Psychological effects include, feeling of euphoria, increased nervousness, irritation, mood disturbances, violent behavior, anxiety, confusion,and paranoia.

The dangers involved in using this drug are mainly due to addiction. This drug is highly addictive and leaves adverse effects when used for long term. Chronic abuse produces a mental psychosis characterized by paranoia, picking at the skin, preoccupation with ones own thoughts, hallucinations.

According to the research conducted by National survey on Drug use and Health, during 2009, 1.2 million aged 12 and above had abused Methamphetamine at least once in the year. The NIDA funded 2010 'Monitoring the Future' study showed that, 1.2% of the 8th graders, 1.6% of the 10th graders, 1.0% of the 12th graders had abused this drug at least once in a year.
